It’s soft, stylish, and super easy to fold. It also weighs 2.4 pounds, so it’s really not a problem to pop it into a bag or a car and take it with you anywhere you go.

How to Choose the Best Dog Pools

1) Durable Material

One of the reasons it’s not advisable to just use a kiddies’ pool to let your dog cool off is that they’re just not made from tough enough material!

Remember, your pups have claws – kids don’t! The material the pool is made of needs to be able to withstand claws, and possibly with a bit of weight behind them.

The best dog pools are made from premium quality, durable material that won’t rip or tear easily. PVC is a pretty common material used in dog pools along with nylon and MDF boards.

2) Safety Design

Safety is of the highest importance when doing any activity with your pup. Shallow pools like these shouldn’t need a life jacket, although you can get one for your pup if you’re worried (and it makes them look adorable!)

Take into account whether or not the material contains toxins, how the pool is put together, and whether or not it has non-slip properties. Pups who love the water can get a little boisterous, and the last thing any pet parent wants is their pup getting hurt. Features like anti-slip and anti-scratch are what you should look for if you want your pooch to be safe while enjoying the cooling effects of a filled dog pool.

3) Several Size Variety

You wouldn’t get the same sized pool for a Great Dane as you would for a Chihuahua! Bigger dog pools are naturally a little more pricey than smaller ones, although they’ll be about the same quality.

Some dog pools are better for small pups, while others are great for the bigger pooches. We’ve made an effort to touch on sizes (and the variety thereof) for each product, and let you know what dogs their sizes would suit best.

Of course, if you’re planning on having the four kids and the 2 Chihuahuas in the pool at the same time, then a bigger one may be best!

4) Maximum Convenience

One of the features to look for when choosing the best swimming pool is maximum convenience. This is the reason why an inflatable dog pool isn’t that much of a thing these days. It has been replaced by much more convenient and portable dog pools with foldable and collapsible design.

You can set up your dog’s pool without the hassle of inflating them first, which could take hours and by then your dog probably won’t be needing it to cool down anymore. So convenience is really a big factor in choosing which dog swimming pools to buy.

Portability is another thing to consider. Also, being able to clean your dog swimming pool easily can help you save a lot of time.

Questions & Answers

Q: What should I look for in the best swimming pool for my dog?

A: If you’re looking for a pool for your dog, consider the following factors:

  • The material it’s made from
  • How safe it is
  • How big it is
  • If it’s easy to set up and take down

You’ll need to have an idea of where you plan to place the pool. This, and the size of your dog, will make a difference to the size of the pool you get.

In terms of safety, you’ll be looking for a dog swimming pool made of non-toxic, durable material that won’t easily tear when it meets dog claws.

If you want to be able to take the pool with you on vacation or to friend’s house or the dog park, ease of use and portability is important too.

Basically, you want a dog pool that fits your dog comfortably and safely and is easy to set up and take down!

Q: Can a dog swim in a kids’ pool?

A: They can, but that doesn’t mean they should! Kiddies’ pools are usually made from thinner, less durable material that isn’t likely to be able to stand up to a dog’s claws or teeth

Dog pools are created specifically for pets who are heavier, more boisterous and have sharp things on their bodies that will most likely end up meeting the canvas at some point.

That’s not to say you can’t let your dog swim in a kid’s pool. But if you do, be prepared to need a replacement pool soon!

Q: How do I choose the right size pool for my dog?

A: Dog pools generally come in specific sizes: 32-inch, 40-inch, 48-inch, 63-inch. Some brands do have different sizes, but when you begin to compare dog pools, you’ll see that many of them are very similar in size.

The size you choose for your dog will depend, first and foremost, on how big they are. A Great Pyrenees won’t fit in a small pool! Just like a Pug may get lost in a 63-inch pool.

It goes without saying that your pooch needs to fit into the pool you choose for them. That leaves you very little option for large dogs.

With little dogs, though, the options are varied. Do you want a pool for the pup themselves and nobody else? Then the closest size to their own would be best.

If you want kids and dogs to be able to swim together, you’ll naturally need a larger pool.

Many pools will state what size dogs they’re created for, so it’s not really that hard to figure out!

Q: How can I keep my dog safe in the pool?

A: Firstly, introduce your dog to the pool slowly, if he hasn’t already leapt in! Show him that there’s nothing to be afraid of and that he can safely get into the water. You may have to climb in yourself to illustrate this point to him.

Never leave the swimming pool full. Empty it after every use, and refill it if your pup wants to swim again. This is not only safer for dogs, but for any kids around too!

Supervise! Never leave your dog unattended when they’re in the pool. Things can happen quickly, and time is of the essence when accidents do happen.

Lastly, learn pet CPR. Nobody wants to have to use it, but knowing how to do it can, literally, save your dog’s life.
